“Girls” game of questionably salacious nature … suspiciously small file size for a PS2 game … yep, it’s another D3 Publisher title. Well, let’s push through it.
D3’s whole “sexy games” series originated as an obvious bite off of Dead or Alive, and this one cuts out the mini-games from DOA Beach Volleyball. It puts its own stamp on it, though, adding more game types (15 in total) and giving it a sort of Extreme Elimination Challenge type of setting (down to the frantically shouting announcer narrating the action).
The first thing the D3 aficionado might notice here is that the girl models actually look a little better than usual. The jiggle physics aren’t as wildly jello-icious as they are in other titles, even when set to “Strong” in the menu.
The gameplay isn’t really much better than D3’s usual clumsy fare, though. There are some alright little mini-games in the mix, but a bunch that are annoying and/or repetitive. Also, for some reason they’re grouped into three sets of five and there’s no way to play them outside of those sets. Each set contains at least one that’s really irritating, and sometimes down to either blind luck or hoping that the computer makes a mistake.
For example, the first set of games ends with a jumping contest that initially seems like it’s just an impossible series of random coin flips. I cruised through YouTube and the few people bold enough to publicly associate themselves with a D3 game seemed equally perplexed. But then, I was saved by the ancient prophecies of a 10-year-old GameFAQs comment left by Gandalf the Horny … it turns out you have to look for the floaty thing that is bobbing the least out of each set, which isn’t easy to eyeball quickly. You’re given just barely enough time to beat the near-perfect computer, so it’s still extremely frustrating (but eventually winnable).
Winning a set of five levels earns you the bikini of your defeated opponent for future use on any of the other girls, plus a short but fully voiced interview with your model.
As far as “adult content” it’s the usual thing for D3 – no sex, no nudity, just a whole lot of cheesecake. Though one of the mini-games is essentially the two girls racing to jerk off a giant thermometer. But other than that, the salacious content is limited to watching the replays of the action which always seem to take some of the pervier possible angles.
It seems like there are some extra girls to unlock somehow (based on the title screen), but I didn’t find this entertaining enough to do more than clear each of the sets of games once.
