This page is for basic help in getting past the game’s big “checkpoints” (the tournament and boss fights) with minimal story and puzzle spoilers.
Name: Keijin
Profile: A genial and honorable pro wrestler who is seen training hard in the square every morning. Keijin is very strong and in great shape, but his grappling style may not have been the best fit for an arena full of weapons and magic …
Partner: Kujira is a cute, somewhat dorky nerd who can’t stop talking about pro wrestling. She also serves as Keijin’s manager.
How to Beat: Keijin is simply about leveling and upgrading enough. He charges his special move for three turns, hits you for about 120 HP, then repeats. If you gain a few levels and get the next-best tier of equipment, you should be able to absorb one of those and deal enough damage to finish him before he gets the second one off.
Name: Milio
Profile: Milio is the Hero chosen by the Gods, which means he enjoys their protection. However, he’s also a kid just starting out on his quest so he’s not very strong. Sometimes Heroes have to lose scripted battles in these types of games …
Partner: Cleria is also a kid, which would normally disqualify her as a partner due to her age, but she uses a magical staff to temporarily take on the appearance of an adult.
How to Beat: Milio’s protection from the Gods is in the form of an item he keeps in his pocket, which will always revive him when he’s beaten. So we should find a way to steal the item, right? No, of course it’s nothing that straightforward. Instead you have to solve a REALLY long sidequest in the dungeon that has two possible branches, but ends with you becoming a Mage Knight and learning to use magic. You then get the Magic Ban and Item Ban spells. Use Item Ban immediately in the fight with Milio to stop him from reviving, then use Magic Ban to stop him from using his powerful healing spell. With nothing but his dinky attack, you’ll overwhelm him quickly.
Name: Plumalocke
Profile: A beautiful sorceress with considerable magic powers, people around town remember her as a wandering adventurer who did good deeds for the common people. But she was just called Pluma then, and now she’s reclusive and acting strange …
Partner: There isn’t much to say about Tirnol, she’s literally thrown into the story at the last possible minute because it seems like Alicesoft didn’t realize that Plumalocke’s story conclusion would conflict with the tournament rules until after they wrote it.
How to Beat: If you fight Plumalocke straight up, it’s possible to win but extremely unlikely as she’ll do about 300 HP damage per turn with her spells. There is a dungeon sidequest that weakens her so that she does more like 20-50 HP each turn. Unlike the previous sidequest, which could be blown through in one day if you wanted to, this one requires you to do specific things on specific days. Either the day before the Milio fight or the day after, she’ll be near the 3F steps and warn you not to win the tournament. Also, on the first day you may want to talk to the waitress and Border at the bar as they have dialogue about her that contributes to the mystery. On the second day, she should be standing near the 4F steps – talking to her initiates the necessary side quest which should be very straightforward if you pay attention to the dialogue. If she doesn’t appear on day 2 you might need to clear some of the other unrelated events on the 4F map.
Name: Gaji
Profile: The fast and badass samurai that Seed sees occasionally throughout the quest, Gaji is another one that you will have extreme trouble matching up to unless a dungeon quest miraculously helps you out.
Partner: Shizuku is an elegant JAPANese girl who is out of her native land for the first time and is seen around town learning about new things, she seems quite naive and very formal and traditional.
How to Beat: You can fight him straight up, but he gets three attacks per turn that way and will be extremely hard without excessive leveling. He can be slowed down via a long, sprawling quest that spans most of 6F (you’ll have to do some side stuff on 5F to open up 6F during this period). It’s pretty straightforward and just requires exploring everywhere you can. Even after the quest is completed, he’ll still get two attacks per turn and hits pretty hard; it’s best to be at least level 24 and have good equipment to be sure of winning.
Name: Xavier
Profile: The scum who jumped you in the Qualifying Dungeon but dismissed you as being too weak to bother killing, Xavier kept up his shady ways and either murdered or set up his opponents before their matches to get default victories all the way here.
Partner: Reine is a lewd woman who enjoys publicly molesting the partners of the fighters who lost.
How to Beat: Well, we know that Xavier is going to try to kill or otherwise keep you from making it to your match, so it’s important to start investigating his plot right away. Like the Plumalocke quest, this one has specific things to do on different days. On Days 19 to 21 the goal is to explore 7F as much as possible, the two objectives here are to rescue someone who is strung up in the dungeon and talk to someone in the town square who is at risk. You can do all of this on Day 19 if you want. You then have to wait for Day 22 (the day of the match) for things to proceed.
Name: Bilnas
Profile: The guy who was supposed to be the final opponent ends up being the final opponent. Yep.
Partner: Hazuki, the object of your whole quest.
How to Beat: Bilnas uses a special ability that slaps you for over 300 damage per attack, making him very hard to beat normally. However, as usual, there is a dungeon quest that takes the ability away and makes him much more manageable. However, you only get one day to complete it. Once Seed heals and can re-enter the dungeon, you can now take the floating Hanny boat to “Site B” which is the entrance to the 8th floor. Thoroughly explore 8F to eventually find something to even the odds against Bilnas with.
The Final Chapter
The time between the tournament and final sequence of the game is pretty straightforward, and there are no time limit events. But the final area is kind of sprung on you suddenly and traps you in a long sequence with no opportunity to buy healing items, so here are some spoiler-free tips to be prepared for it. Also, level 65 is about a safe point to be sure you’re strong enough to make it through everything at the very end. Have at least 10 Manga Meats (respawn randomly in BBBBBB on the 8th floor each time you leave dungeon and return), 30 Seirogan 3 and all the free Seirogan 2 you can carry.
The “point of no return” is when you search the final cage on the final dungeon floor. You can walk right up to it and look in, you’re fine until you actually search it. The fight here is actually the toughest one in the game. Go all out here, don’t worry if you barely win this sequence, the remaining bosses aren’t NEARLY as tough. The common enemies in the final areas are actually tougher but you can run from nearly all of those.
There are a couple opportunities to save past this, but no more to buy items, get anything else in town or wander the dungeon freely.
The sequence that follows should be very straightforward. When you have to fight a boss in the town, there doesn’t seem to be a trick to it, you just have to poke around locations until you happen to run into them (it might be the 2nd or 3rd time you enter the same place).
After that, you go to the final dungeon area. This area is short but has a sequence of story flags that is a little confusing. First, go toward your objective and see that it is blocked by a familiar character. Talk to them. Then go track down the three red dots (enemies) on the map and kill them. After this, a new red dot enemy should appear. Kill this one too to get a key item. The rest should be apparent from there.
The final battle requires you to kill the enemies in a specific order that isn’t entirely intuitive and just takes a lot of playing around. Fortunately, they all hit like wimps. If you want to just get right to it the correct order is Mika > Yuki > Mina > Final Boss.
