As mentioned in the Rance 4.1 review, these are basically just one not-particularly-long game split into even smaller halves. Same game engine, same fundamental style in Rance 4.2.
The only changes are minor tweaks to the experience. This one gives you a full party of four characters (which means you can no longer summon Feliss) and a new dungeon to explore. Combat is much easier overall; I only ended up needing to use one stamina restore item and one healing item. About 3/4 of the way through you get a randomized means of healing that pops up fairly often.
The story picks up immediately where Rance 4.1 left off, as everyone’s favorite lecher discovers that a Gal Monster liberation front is behind the attacks on Happiness Pharmaceuticals and sets out to destroy them in their secret base outside of town. You get two added characters for the duration of this one, and between them and a seeming reduction in the overall difficulty of random encounters this really felt like it was much easier.
The dungeon felt a lot more straightforward as well, with fewer moments of just having to inexplicably walk through some random area to trigger a necessary plot event. It has a couple of obtuse “click on everything possible multiple times” visual novel puzzles but that aspect of it felt a lot tamer in this half of the game as well.
