Divine Sealing is a basic sh’mup with strip-off pics in between levels. It also has a surprising amount of exposition (in moon runes) to mash through, which is a little annoying.
I don’t know what sort of story it’s spinning but the gist is that each level has you rescue some exotic space princess by shooting through an enemy squadron and a boss, she then hits you with a few of her favorite poses before its off to the next level.
I would say this game is somewhat low difficulty as sh’mups go, it’s not an utter cakewalk but it’s not memorization-based or “bullet hell” and you get an unlimited amount of continues plus your starting lives and extra lives (at 10k points) are generous. One thing that might initially throw you for a loop is that the bosses don’t harm you on contact, regular enemies do but you can fly right through the boss sprites. Bosses also vary in appearance but have only one real trick, which is to fill the screen with slow-moving projectiles while they meander around.
As a shooter I wouldn’t say Divine Sealing is incompetent, but the design and presentation is decidely mediocre. The best bit is that the art of the girls in between levels actually looks pretty good (considering Genesis limitations). The gameplay is very basic with little in the way of weapons upgrades, you get a tail gun after a certain amount of points but I never saw anything else (and it’s lost when you asplode). There are also only four levels that are over pretty fast. At least the game doesn’t make you work too hard to get the cheesecake and delivers the full monty after each level without lots of grindy teasing.
