The Return of Lady Frog appears to be a riff on Galeco’s “Splash!”, which we covered here recently … same general format of uncovering pics while dodging bouncing balls, same power-ups. It may well just be a straight hack, as Microhard was apparently known for bootlegging (their first title was a blatant Pac-Man knockoff).
But however it came about, Microhard does make a number of changes and additions. Instead of painting over the pics, you gotta drop bombs to uncover squares (which can also asplode the enemies, though if they touch them before detonation they get swept up). You can also upgrade your gun, and you automatically get a nude pic at the end of each level rather than having to go through a series of several stripoff pics first. It also adds a slot spin at the end of each level that can win you 1 to 6 bonus credits … hardly ever seems to hit, but I’ve never seen that done in an arcade game before, adult or otherwise.
Anyway. The setup is, this girl sunning herself at a nude beach gets turned into a frog by some old crone. From there, I’m not sure if its her being forced to uncover the witch’s nekkid pinup collection for some reason, or a similar anthropomorphic frog trying to save her.
Whoever chose (prolly stole) the pics had a good eye for booba, but that’s about the highlight of the game. Otherwise it’s pretty tedious, with some really annoying music loops to boot.
