This odd conceptual rip of the obscure early 80s game Make Trax/Crush Roller opens with Roger and Jessica Rabbit lurking around in some alley … and initially it looks as if Roger has had his brains blown out, but I guess it’s actually supposed to be a sloppy fro?
Anyway, we take control of Roger and for some reason he has to paint the floor of mazes while being menaced by hobos and ghosts and such. The game is brutal as from the very first level, these enemies ruthlessly track you at all times like the Terminator and end up frequently boxing you out. None of this “one takes the chase serious and the other three just wander around aimlessly” of Pac-Man, they’re all out for blood.
That would make it tough enough, but the difficulty is compounded by a few additional things. You don’t just have to cover the pellets, you have to cover every inch of tile (so why are there pellets?). Also, Roger is faster than most of the enemies but he moves with ridiculous momentum and will ignore like 1 out of 4 attempts to turn a corner. Sliding by a corner you meant to take is the most frequent form of death in this game.
All the assistance you get in this world is two or three “Help” bombs per level, which freeze the enemies for literally about one second when deployed. Using one when you’re already trapped between them is completely futile.
I found the game became nearly impossible at level 3, which introduces ghosts that randomly start sprinting even faster than Roger moves for a period of a couple seconds. But it turns out the high difficulty seems to be to cover the fact that there are only four levels in total! Apparently I also pulled up just short of the nookie, you get topless Jessica pics after levels 3 and 4.
I guess if you just want naked Jessica Rabbit you could do a lot better with a lot less headache by just doing an internet search. The only reason to try this out is if you want the stiff challenge of literally the hardest maze chase game I’ve ever played.
