How to Emulate: Sharp X68000 Emulation Guide
Review by: Master-B
The obvious comparison for Guerriere Lyeward is Kung Fu Master, but I really think the developers were shooting for more of a porny version of Wonder Momo.
Anyway, the premise is that it’s the year 2039 and all seems well in the world. But out of nowhere, schoolgirls start rioting in the streets, looting stores and stripping each other off. Japanese riots are WAY more fun than our riots.
It seems our heroine Lyeward steps in to beat assorted female gang leaders into submission, first traversing waves of their mooks (most often ladies from 80s aerobics tapes). After having their clothes beaten off the gang leaders are somehow reformed by the power of hot lesbian sex, though for some reason Lyeward doesn’t participate in this and instead subcontracts the task out to random schoolgirls.
If you’re emulating this, though, first thing’s first is making sure the first two of the Sharp’s special “XF” keys are mapped to buttons (not automatically done in XM6) or you’re not making it past the random “insert coin” on the title screen. Once in-game, button 1 is for kicking and button 2 is for a rather anemic punch. The way Lyeward walks around it kinda looks like she has futadik but she’s actually just holding her punching arm in a weird position. The punch has a very quick animation cycle but the shortest range, you can be out-reached by numerous enemies, and also it can’t be used while jumping or ducking. There isn’t much reason to do anything but kick in this one.
You’ll also be sorely tested as Lyeward is constantly beset on all sides by hordes of fast-moving foes that it’s hard to keep up with. Lacking the reflex time and disciplined training of a Japanese child, your next best bet is to inch forward very slowly through the levels as the enemies appear at fixed trigger points and moving carefully enough makes only one or two appear at a time. Even doing this it’s still pretty hard, and achingly slow to repeat everything when you die (you only get one life, all the way back to the beginning when you lose your solitary life). The bosses are actually easier than the levels, each seems to be weak to a particular move, ie the first one has no defense against low kicks, the second one really struggles with jump kicks, etc.
Honestly it’s probably best to just watch this on YouTube if you have any interest in it, the gameplay link below is to a guy who managed to get the whole thing uncensored on there without them noticing somehow.
